About Me

I’m Mikolaj, the person behind The Gain Check.

dsc 4282

I’ve been training seriously for over 3 years, though not continuously, there were breaks and comebacks along the way, moments when life (shift work, early mornings, sometimes starting my day at 3:50 AM) got in the way of training. That’s exactly why I don’t write from the perspective of someone who had a perfect, linear path. I write from the perspective of someone who kept coming back to it and eventually found a system that actually works with a real, demanding schedule.

Before the gym, I trained in swimming and karate, which is where my interest in technical movement and training consistency comes from, not just lifting heavy. Right now I train on a push/pull split, I take recovery seriously (a sauna session after training is a ritual for me, not an afterthought), and I treat every change to my plan as something to measure, not something to believe in.

Why You Can Trust Me

I’m not a certified personal trainer or a sports nutritionist. I’m not selling you a title, I’m sharing what I’ve actually tested on myself.

A few specifics. I broke through a plateau by increasing training intensity and protein intake, not through some magic trick. I used two personal trainer sessions as check-ins to verify my technique and program structure, not as ongoing coaching. I confirm my real body composition changes with an InBody 770 scan, not flattering lighting. I’ve gone almost two years without energy drinks because I checked how they were affecting my sleep and recovery.

Every article on this site combines that personal experience with the research behind it (Google Scholar, PubMed), so you can verify things yourself instead of taking my word for it.
